Guffey Butte, Idaho Hike

Embark on an adventurous 6-7 hour field trip to Guffey Butte, an ancient volcanic center near Celebration Park. Led by Dr. Brittany Brand from Boise State University, this trip will take participants on a challenging hike up the flanks of Guffey Butte, covering approximately three miles and gaining 800 feet in elevation. Along the way, you’ll learn about the explosive forces that shaped the region, exploring evidence of violent eruptions, ancient magma pathways, and crater walls.

From breathtaking views of the Snake River Plain to fascinating geological formations, this trip offers a unique opportunity to experience the region’s volcanic history firsthand. Participants should be in good physical shape and prepared with sturdy footwear, water, snacks, and weather-appropriate clothing for a full day of discovery.
